Sandi Orbell

Board of Directors President

Sandi is a native Oregonian. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Oregon. After completing her education, she became involved in the area of planning for Lane County Mental Health Services, and later moved into the field of developmental disabilities. For that work she was first employed by Lane County Direction Service and then by Lane County Health and Human Services. For the final 18 years of her career, Sandi was involved in the delivery of services to children with severe disabilities and their families. Serving as a team leader, she helped to coordinate the efforts of a group of case managers who were increasingly involved in crisis management for children dually diagnosed with a developmental disability, autism or a mental health diagnosis. Sandi and her husband John are the parents of two adult sons and live in South Eugene.

Diane Hazen

President-Elect

Diane Hazen is a licensed clinical social worker, and has worked most recently as Director of Community Partnerships and Care Transitions for PeaceHealth. She was Director of Medical Social Work at Sacred Heart Medical Center for eleven years. She also worked on policy and legislative issues while serving on PeaceHealth’s Government Relations Task Force. Diane is Past President and has served on the Board of South Lane Family Relief Nursery for nineteen years. She is Past President of the Oregon Society for Social Work Leadership in Healthcare and was the recipient of the organization’s award, “Social Work Administrator of the Year”, for the state of Oregon. Her community memberships include serving on the Healthy Start Advisory Board, Lane County Harm Reduction Coalition and Latino Medical Access Coalition. She is currently President of the Board of Our Children’s Trust, a nonprofit focused on protecting earth’s natural systems for current and future generations. Diane has presented nationally on topics addressing how to create collaborative community forums to effect change and improve health care across the continuum.

 

Jay Bennett

Secretary

Jay has served on the HIV Alliance Board of Directors since September 2010. After viewing several social commentary motion pictures and taking a gay-lesbian history class at Oregon State University, Jay became interested in local grassroots HIV awareness agencies. Since June 2010, Jay has been employed with Columbia State Bank in Eugene, a company that fosters community involvement. He and his partner, Robert, have been together since 1999 and they reside just outside of Eugene.

Jason Davis

Board Member

Jason Davis is the Public Information Officer for Lane County Health & Human Services (H&HS). Jason comes from a crisis communications background, having spent time providing direction and support on campaigns for large corporations (Microsoft, T-Mobile) and various NGOs and political entities (ACLU, Planned Parenthood etc.). Over the two years, Jason has utilized his agency experience (Waggener Edstrom Worldwide, Edelman, APCO and Eugene-based Funk/Levis & Associates) to help H&HS prepare for, predict and navigate various communication challenges. Jason holds a BS in government (political science) from Dartmouth College, an MBA from New York University and a Master of Science in Organizational Development from University of Michigan.

Jo Ann English

Board Member

Jo Ann has worked in healthcare for 40 years beginning as a clinical chemist (CLS(ASCP)CM)and then moving to the business side with VHA, the nation’s largest alliance of not-for-profit healthcare organizations, for 15 years in business development, healthcare information technology, and member satisfaction. She has a B.S. in chemistry from Emory and Henry College and a B.S. in medical technology from Medical College of Virginia and has completed graduate studies for a M.S. in computer science from University of North Texas. She has served as director of development for AIDS Services of North Texas following a term as board member and 10 years leading an AIDS care team. Her passion for HIV services is rooted in many years of knowing, caring and working with people who are HIV positive and seeing how these services make a difference in the quality of their lives. Since retiring and moving to Springfield, she and her husband, Blake, are enjoying their grandchildren and exploring thewonders of the Pacific Northwest.

Jefrey Leigh

Board Member

Jefrey’s life has been shaped in part through HIV infection and the effects it has had on family and friends from the earliest days of the disease. He first learned of HIV Alliance through the support they offered a family member and when the opportunity to give back as a student intern studying Computer Networks at Lane Community College, he took it. Within 9 months he had taken over the role of IT Coordinator; a position that would last for 5 years. He has since become a Technical Support Engineer for Symantec. His return to HIV Alliance is fueled by a belief in the mission of supporting individuals living with HIV/AIDS and preventing new HIV infections with the need for non-profits to make the most of current technologies to support that mission.

 

Megan Livermore

Board Member

Megan, a native of Eugene, has a civil litigation, business and real estate practice with the firm of Gaydos, Churnside & Balthrop, PC. Prior to joining the firm, Megan was a law clerk for the Honorable Darryl Larson of the Lane County Circuit Court. Before going to law school, Megan worked in both the public and private sector. She worked in the Director’s Office at the Oregon Department of Corrections and then helped launch Digimarc, a successful Portland high-tech company where she spent seven years helping it grow from start up to its Initial Public Offering and beyond. Megan is the immediate past-president of Oregon Women Lawyers, President of the Lane County Bar Association and is on the board of OGALLA the LGBT Bar Association of Oregon. Megan received her juris doctor in 2005 from the Willamette University College of Law where she served as the Symposium Editor for the Willamette Law Review. She has her undergraduate degree in speech communications from Oregon State University.

 

Dane Zahner

Board Member

Dane is a Retail Store Manager for Kmart part of the Sears Holding Company. He has been in retail since 1989 after he graduated from Central Michigan University. He was a lifelong resident of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan until he proceeded west after college. He has resided in Oregon since 1996, with his last ten years being in Douglas County. He is active in his community where he resides and is involved as director of his local Water District, Leader in Mixed Company, Douglas County Gay Archives and every other organization he can assist in attaining its goal. Dane has been a successful recovering alcoholic for over 11 years now. He firmly believes in talking about Alcohol and Drug addiction and being a resource for those still struggling. He loves being a part of the area he lives in and giving back to it in any way he can. He enjoys traveling, camping, gardening and maintaining his 16 acres of property. His family, past partners and friends and especially his boyfriend Kris, and two dogs mean everything to him.

Laurie Larson-Lewis

Laurie has worked in non-profit agencies for over 27 years. She began her career with Lane County Housing and Community Services, working for them for over 20 years. Since 2011 she has worked as the Finance Manager for Oregon Social Learning Center, a behavioral research organization focusing on children and families. She graduated from Northwest Christian University with a Bachelor’s in Business Management. Her past volunteer positions include a call taker for Womenspace, Supervisory committee member for OUR Credit Union, Treasurer for National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, and the WOW hall. She and her husband, Rick, recently built a house in Springfield and have one adult son.

Brinkhorst

Board Member

Allison Brinkhorst is a graduate student studying Nonprofit Management at the University of Oregon.  Originally from St. Louis, she attended Grinnell College where she majored in Sociology and Gender, Women’s, & Sexuality Studies, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.  After graduating, she worked as a case manager and Spanish translator at mid-Iowa Community Action.  More recently, Allison managed a strategic planning process for a congregation of 1,600 members, and was elected to sit on Grinnell College’s Alumni Council.  She now works at the University of Oregon Coordinating the Bias Response Team.  A staunch supporter of social justice, she also represents Social Justice Fund Northwest.  Allison comes to HIV Alliance’s Board of Directors through the Scholars on the Board Program.
