Connect with a Peer Support Specialist
Peer Support Services

The Alliance for Community Wellness’s peer support services program is designed to address the ongoing challenges of the substance overdose epidemic. This program is built on the understanding that individuals at risk of substance overdose may not always be ready to pursue substance use treatment. By working with a peer support specialist, the program focuses on reducing the harms associated with substance use while fostering trust and readiness for treatment. Peer services are a proven, effective approach for improving engagement and building pathways to recovery. These services play a critical role in mitigating the negative effects of substance use, reducing the risk of overdose, and improving overall health outcomes for individuals who may otherwise remain unsupported.

At the core of this program are judgment-free harm reduction services, which are tailored to meet clients where they are in their journey. Our highly trained peer support specialists build meaningful relationships to provide:

  • Advocacy for client needs to help individuals navigate barriers to care
  • Access to harm reduction tools, including syringe exchange services, naloxone distribution, safer injection training, and free testing for HIV and hepatitis C
  • Basic needs support, such as assistance with housing, food resources, and transportation
  • Guidance and encouragement to pursue substance use disorder treatment, if and when individuals feel ready
  • Application assistance for health insurance, benefits programs, and other essential services

The peer support services program partners closely with local agencies to provide referrals and ensure clients are connected to appropriate resources. While we are currently unable to accept referrals from the general public, our program is deeply committed to supporting individuals referred to us through our partner organizations. By prioritizing harm reduction strategies, our peer support specialists help people achieve better health and well-being while creating a foundation for long-term recovery.
