HIV Alliance a Kendall Cares semi-finalist!

HIV Alliance is a semi-finalist in the 2012 Kendall Cares philanthropy campaign to give $30,000 to six local charities!

What would we do with a $5,000 donation from Kendall Auto Group?  HIV Alliance provides free prevention and outreach services, free educational presentations in schools and drug/alcohol treatment facilities, and free informational materials to high-risk people in Eugene and Lane County.  Our prevention/outreach and education programs help to empower people to make healthy choices and reduce the spread of HIV in our communities. Five thousand dollars would really make an impact for these programs.

Five thousand dollars could completely fund the honorariums we give to our HIV-positive speakers education speakers during the year.  These brave people, men and women, in spite of the stigma against those living with HIV, "out" themselves in our community and share how HIV has changed their lives.  In doing so, they change other lives for the better.

Five thousand dollars could provide almost 40% of the annual cost of providing free safer-sex supplies for those most at risk of HIV infection in our community.  It costs so little to prevent an infection that costs over $600,000 in life-time treatment for that person.  Five thousand dollars could also supply our agency with over 300 free HIV tests for high-risk people - because treatment is prevention.  If people can't access testing, they can't start treatment.  Once they are in treatment they are less likely to pass along the infection.

So, what would HIV Alliance do with a five thousand dollar donation from Kendall Auto Group?  We would give it back to our community by working to keep everyone living healthy and empowered lives.
